-So, this will consume all your time? – She asked looking at her feet.
-Kind of… - he said pulling up his shoulders.
-This is it then…? – She lowered her head at a point where he couldn’t see her face.
-What?
-The time which neither of us wanted to face – she whispered.
-What do you mean? What… -
-It’s time for us to break up – she spit finally.
-Why? – He asked shocked.
-Remember when we were younger… - she started.
-You can’t be serious! We were too young back then – he said shaking his head.
-But we made this promise that… - she continued still staring at her feet.
-I can’t leave you now – he said as his eyes wide opened.
-We would chase our dreams…
-I love you with everything I am – he tried, chocking back tears.
-When we got the chance – she looked up at him, but as she saw his suffering she looked back down.
-Ashley please don’t leave me now, I need you! – He begged as a few tears fell from his eyes all the way through his face.
-I need you too. And you’re my one true love, Jimmy – she replied.
Silently he moved forward and placed his head on her shoulder. Her left hand made its way to his head and Ashley started stroking his short brown hair. She smiled in anguish as she got closer his ear.
-We’ll be fine. Besides, I couldn’t get the chance to tell you. – She gave him time to ask ‘what’, but he kept silent – I got a scholarship in the University of Photography. I start this summer. – a few minutes went by.
-But you’re just fifteen years old?! – he asked more for himself – you can’t get at an university, right? – he finished pulling his head back and looking at her.
-I took an exam, and they let me in. So, when I get out of high school I’m gonna study art – she finished with a huge smile full of pride on her face.
-If you keep studying, we’ll never be together again – he said half joking, half serious. She smiled back, but when she talked her smile disappeared.
-I’m counting on your success with your band.
-We’re all seventeen. And we’re not that good…
-I never heard you. But with your voice in it, it will surely make a big deal – she said as she took his face between both her hands.
-I’m not singing, I’m playing rhythm guitar…
-Seriously? Who’s singing?! – she asked surprised as she downed her hands.
-Remember this boy Brian? – she approved with her head – The thin, quiet genius? Well, he’s singing… After all is his band, right?
-Right… - she looked at her feet again.
-This is good-bye, right now? – he asked looking down.
-Yep. It pretty much looks like, so…
-May I ask for a last kiss? – he said holding one of her hands and grabbing her face with the other one.
She smiled shyly and looked him in the eye. He got closer and closer as his mouth found his way to hers. When their lips touched, her cheeks immediately got red and her breathing got faster. He opened his mouth as his heart started beating perhaps too loud. She placed her spare hand on his chest. And as she felt the beating she kissed him back choking a smile.
When they broke up the kiss, he licked up his own lips as a smile drew itself upon his face and he rested his forehead onto hers. She smiled widely with her eyes shut.
-We will keep in touch, won’t we? – he asked opening his eyes and looking at her.
-You better don’t waste your time on me. They’re gonna hate you if you spend all your time thinking of me – she said narrowing her eyes.
-Not even as friends? – He asked surprised.
-I will never look at you as a friend. Actually, I’ve never had.
-Aw, that’s so sweet –he said smiling and stroking her cheek with his thumb.
-This is good-bye – she said after a while.
-Good bye – he replied looking at her in the eyes.
-Kind of… - he said pulling up his shoulders.
